Victor Moses of Nigeria happened be the first Chelsea player to account defeat at the world cup in Russia this evening with a horrific display from Nigeria resulted in defeat by Croatia.
When asked prior to the game, Moses stressed on the need for Nigeria to start up on a good note in their group match opener in what looks like one of the toughest groups in the world cup, Between Croatia and Nigeria there were many familiar faces to the Premier League watchers such as the Nigerian Captain John Mikel Obi, Chelsea right wing back Victor Moses, Arsenal attacker Alex Iwobi, Leceister City duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Ihanacho, Ahmed Musa who is on loan from Leceister, former Watford forward Odion Ighalo and Chelsea loanee who was unused substitute Kenneth Omeruo. Then former Tottenham midfielder Luca Modric who converted the sport-kick and sealed the all deserved three points for Croatia but the game weren’t as tough and intensity we usually see in the domestic league.
Victor Moses was deployed on the left flank for Nigeria during line-up but soon switched into an attacking position on the right flank and was responsible in taking free kicks, but so disappointing he and his team-mates like John Mikel Obi who plied in the no.10 role never impressed.
It was so disappointing for the New Stoke City signing Oghenekaro Etebo who diverted Mario Mandzukic header into his own net following a first-half corner, and Luka Modric converted a penalty in the second half.
While the Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo remained on the Nigeria bench through the match. Nigeria’s next match will be on Friday 22ndJune against Iceland.
