It looks set to be a busy transfer window at Arsenal. Reports making the rounds have continued to link the Gunners with a host of names as they aim to fast track recruitment ahead of a Summer where many key players, who are in the final months of their contracts, will be free to walk.
The latest star to be credited with a link to the North London outfit is 20 year Baily whose displays for Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen, is said to have convinced Arsene Wenger, famed for his tight fistedness, to splash the clash
Wenger have earmarked Bailey as the ideal replacement for Manchester City bound Alexis Sanchez and he is reported to have dispatched scouts to Leverkusen’s last two games to make final assessments on the young star. A bid of around 30 million Pounds is reportedly been prepared ahead of the window.
However Arsenal are not the only ones interested in Baily. A host of other Premier League sides, notably Chelsea, are working assiduously to convince the fleet footed winger to depart from Germany.
Chelsea, third on the top fight rankings, have had a decent enough season but intermittent rumours have continued to spring up about Conte’s lack of contentment with the amount of players at his disposal. The Italian manager recently in an interview beckoned on the decision makers at Stamford Bridge to bring in more bodies to enable the Club in its charge for honours on three major fronts(four if you still believe Chelsea can make up a 17points gap between them and Manchester City). Moreover, with Eden Hazard’s contract extension yet to be signed and the Belgian’s open admiration of Madrid, the Club will be keen to bring in a younger player who could learn from the talented number 10 and eventually replace him.
Baily, a full Jamaican International, has been in superb form in the German top flight this season with his technical ability making him a night mare for BundesLiga defenders. The Kingston born winger had endured a frustrating start to his career in Germany following his move from Belgian side, Genk in the beginning of year. He had only managed eight substitute appearances across the entire second half of the season, with his contributions considerably below par.
However in first full season, he has looked the real deal, contributing six goals and four assists in just 10 league appearances as Leverkusen occupy the fourth spot, level on points with Dortmund who are only ahead on goal difference. A further two goals have come in the DFB Pokal, to further emphasize the winger’s proficiency in front of goal.
Chelsea were reportedly the first English side to express an interest in Baily. But the Blues misery in the transfer market, which saw a host of stars prefer other clubs to them in the last window, may be set to continue as Arsenal are thought to be the frontrunners for his signature if he is allowed to leave.
