Michy Batshuayi have continued to defy expectation with his superb performance since his loan move to Signa Iduna Park from Chelsea last month. The Belgian forward who already have already had 3 goals since joining the German team netted twice as Dortmund came from behind to defeat Atlanta in the first leg of Uefa Europa league round of 32.
The game in a bright manner as Dortmund dominated early proceedings forcing Atlanta to sit deep. Exactly at the hour mark, Andre Schurrle was at the right place and right time to latch onto a pass by Piszczek to put the home team in the lead. The goal was a reward to Dortmund side who have been dominating the game and the score was constant till the end of the first interval. Dortmund inconsistent display resurfaced in the second half as the Bundesliga team that led 1-0 during the break were suddenly a goal down after barely 11 minutes of the second half with Ilicic being the surprise scorer of both goals. Gasperini’s team talks during the break might have worked but there was still time for a twist in the tale. Dortmund interim boss Peter Stoger replaced Marco Reus with Mario Gotze 2 minutes after the hour mark.
The substitution paid of 3 minutes later as the German provided an opening for Michy Batshauyi to latch on and the Belgium international made no mistake to restore parity for the host. The scoreline last for 25 minutes and it seemed like the game was heading into a stalemate but the Batshuayi made a statement late on as the Belgian stole the win for Dortmund in injury time with an assist from Impressive Mario Gotze after a horrible clearance from Rafael Tobi.
Dortmund will need in form Batshuayi fit in a weeks’ time when the visit Atlanta for the second leg of the tie.
