Bellamy has expressed his disgust at underperforming Manchester United Forward Romelu Lukaku while revealing that the Belgian has not moved on from his bad behaviours.
In a debate program on Sky Sports, the former Welsh international tried to analyze Lukaku’s problem in the current season, and how the Red Devils can help him rediscover his form. The Belgian international is currently on an 8 game goal draught and in real need of help.
Bellamy said: “His record against the top teams is not great. But the way Manchester United play against the top teams doesn’t suit him – he’s often isolated”. “Believe it or not, as big as he is, he has all the bad habits for a target man”. “His touch is poor but it always has been. He was probably that size at 13/14 and never had to worry about anyone taking the ball off him”. “Now he’s up against men, if you’re body position is not right they will take it off you”. “The size he was he could always get away with a bad touch because he was quicker, bigger and stronger than anyone else. Not anymore”. “He hasn’t quite addressed his bad habits. So as a target man waiting up there for people to join in, it isn’t actually his strength believe it or not”.
Tim Sherwood went on to say: “He needs wingers getting the ball in the box to be effective.”
While the football pundit heap criticism on the forward, Jose Mourinho who seems to keep fate in the striker is of the opinion that the Belgian will begin to notch in some goals soon.
“Not just with the goals he is not scoring but also in his confidence, in his movement, his touch,” Mourinho told reporters after the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford. “He is not linking the game well with the team. But he is our striker and he is a good striker we believe in”. “Romelu is a hard-working guy and a good professional. One day the goals will arrive and the confidence will be back”.
United next host Everton in the Premier League on Sunday – one of the Belgian’s old clubs.
