Paris Saint German put the mid-week defeat at Bernebeu behind them as the French side came from behind to hammer Strasbourg in a 5-2 rout at Parcs de Paris on Saturday.
A home match against mid-table opponent always appeared on paper to be a perfect solution for PSG, who had suffered a 3-1 reverse in the first leg of their last-16 knockout game at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday. Strasbourg being one of the few teams to have defeated the PSG with Lyon as the other team. Strasbourg had arrived in the French capital hoping for a repeat of their shock 2-1 triumph in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
PSG were tipped to return to winning ways against Strasbourg considering their huge budget and player quality but Strasbourg unfazed by the media took a shock 6 minutes lead at Parc de Paris through Jean-Eudes Aholou. The lead attracted boos from PSG supporters who felt the goal should have been prevented. The lead however lasted for 4 minutes as Julian Draxler levelled the game for the home team. PSG however continue to grow in the game and eventual bagged 2 goals in a space of a minutes as Neymer and Di Maria scored on the 21st and 22nd minute consecutively to put the host in the comfortable position.
PSG were able to preserve the score-line till the end of the first interval. Thierry Laurey’s half-time team talk seemed to have worked as the away team began the second period in a more organized and determined manner. Strasbourg struck again in the game with Stephane Bahoken in the 67th minute to reduce the deficit to a goal but a late double from Edison Cavani was enough for the PSG to blow the away side away.
The Victory means that PSG restores their 12-point lead over Monaco at the top of the table as well passing a preliminary test ahead of the reverse fixture at Parc de Paris against Madrid in the Champions league.
