Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas returned to action for Chelsea on Thursday in the game against Paok in the Europa league, as he was introduced in the second interval for summer signing Jorginho.

The central midfielder had been on the sideline in the current season with a knee injury, but recently recovered to feature for 25 minutes in Greece on Thursday night.

The Spaniard who began the pre-season tour with Maurizio Sarri sustained injury within the course of the warm-up games and is yet to feature for Chelsea in the Premier league in the current league season. Questions were raised about his future in the club, but his introduction on the 65th by the Italian tactician should calm the steam of speculations.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal player have shown his delight at getting his first appearance under the new boss Maurizio Sarri.

In an interview with Chelsea website, Fabregas said: “It’s good to be back. “I’m not 100 per cent yet but I have had eight sessions with the team. I have been working hard hoping for this day, and I enjoyed it.”

Fabregas will be hoping to feature when Chelsea visit West Ham on Sunday for Premier league match of the weekend. The Blues have won all five of their opening league game and currently in the same point with league leaders Liverpool.
