Despite speculation that La Liga side Athletico Madrid has joined in the chase for Chelsea forward Alavaro Morata, Diego Simeone has chosen to remain coy on the speculation of Morata replacing former Chelsea striker Diego Costa who is current on the sidelines.

Morata seems to be interested in move to Spain after scoring barely five goals for Chelsea in the current football season, but Simeone has refused to reveal whether the La Liga based football club will offer the Spanish international an escape route.

‘The only thing I’m thinking about is the upcoming match against Levante,’ Simeone said. ‘I don’t speak about players that aren’t with us, only those that are.

‘I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.

‘Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, and some could arrive. We need to wait until January 31.’

Spanish radio Cope has revealed that Athletico’s transfer chief Andrea Bertra have already travelled to England to open talks for the player.

Meanwhile Sevilla is reportedly linked with the Spaniard, but the club seems to have encountered a complex situation according to Director Joaquin Caparros.

He said: ‘It is true that we have an interest in this player [Morata], but it is a very, very complicated operation.

‘The player may want to come here over other options, but it is very complicated. Chelsea are a club who are very difficult to negotiate [with].’
