Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo despite recent reports of him opting to remain at the Chinese club, has received a transfer fee from current club Changchum Yatai ahead of the winter window. Media reports have it that a £20 million fee have been placed on his head in the event that a potential buyer comes by January. While Ighalo is hoping to continue working for the club in the second tier of the Chinese football league, his current employers could be looking to cash in on him when the right time approaches.
The former Watford and Granada forward has delivered within his two years of stay with the Chinese club. Ighalo netted 15 goals in his debut season, while hitting the target 21 times in 2018. However the media believes that the Nigerian hitman could be on the move with a host of European club queuing for his signature when the Chinese transfer window opens on the 4 of January.
In the previous season, Ighalo despite suffering from injuries finished 6 goals behind the league’s top scorer Wu Lei who incidentally was plying his trade for champions Shanghai SIPG and Yatai hopes they could recover part of the money splashed in bringing the Nigerian international from Premier League side Watford.
A source close to the Super Eagles attacker affirmed: “Odion won’t go on a cheap. His club will want to recoup what they spent on him.”
