Juventus boss Allegri believes that Ronaldo will score when the host Sassulo in Turin on Sunday. Allegri made the comment while backing the Portuguese playmaker for FIFA footballer of the year award.
Ronaldo skipped featuring for Portugal during the international break to focus on club career after failing to score in his opening three games of the new league season.
“Cristiano worked well and I think tomorrow he will score and break the ice,” Allegri said in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against second-placed Sassuolo. “I don’t expect Ronaldo to do more or less than what he did in the first three games, everyone was waiting for Ronaldo and he set up (Mario) Mandzukic”. “I believe tomorrow could be his day.”
Allegri also backed the Portuguese talisman to win the FIFA footballer of the year award as he is currently in a three man race with Luka Modric and Mohammed Salah. Allegri made the statement based on the players exploits with last season. Ronaldo netted 44 goals for Real Madrid last season with 15 goals coming in the Champion’s league.
“With no offence to Luka Modric, I’d give the Ballon d’Or to Ronaldo for what he did last season. I think he deserves it,” said Allegri.
Allegri also confirmed that he will make changes against Sassulo who incidentally are in second place. Juventus will also visit Valencia next week in the Uefa Champion’s league.
“This is where the season starts in earnest”. “Our first objectives are to qualify from our Champion’s League group and lead the way in the league in order to be fighting on all fronts come March.”
