Liverpool yesterday were shown the exit door of the FA cup as the Merseyside club conceded a home defeat to West brom at the fourth round of the FA cup. These defeat sums it to three consecutive defeat for the club under Jurgen Kloop’s era with previous defeats to Wolves and West-ham all in the same round.

Liverpool started the game on a bright note and immediately rewarded with the first goal of the tie thanks to a Roberto Firminho who scored with a well-timed lob inside the opening five minutes. The lead was cut short by Jay Rodriguez who score twice in a space of 6 minutes to silent the Anfield faithful to gift the baggies the lead. Roberto Firminho had a chance to restore parity for the Reds from the spot but the Brazilian failed to convert. Things got worse for Liverpool with Matip gifting the baggies a commanding position with an own goal. Mohammed Salah looked to have handed Liverpool a lifeline when he pulled one back on the 78th minute but it was too late to salvage something after an abysmal display in the first interval as West brom held their ground to progress to the next round.

With Liverpool previously eliminated from the Carabao cup, Kloop will have to make a decision on whether to push the continental trophy or to cement a top four place in the league with Tottenham closing in. Liverpool have conceded three goals in two consecutive games a record which is happening for the first time in a decade and will be avoiding repetition of the record when fifth place Spurs visit Anfield next weekend though the Merseyside team will visit Huddersfield town during the midweek. Liverpool will have to improve for them to stand a chance of landing trophy in the near future.
