Chelsea centre-forward Olivier Giroud has revealed what transpired between him and Ligue 1 side Marseille last summer. The Frenchman who lifted the World Cup in Russia last summer caught the eyes of the Ligue 1 side.

This was barely six months to his career at the Bridge having switched from rival club Arsenal back in January.

Multiple reports linked the former Arsenal striker to a permanent exit from the Bridge with Marseille as his destination, while Athletico Madrid will in the move for a loan deal. Sarri however decided to stick with the player despite being linked with his former player Gonzalo Higuain.

Giroud however has revealed that though he considered a return to his homeland, the links and reports were blown out of proportion. In an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, Giroud said: “It did not go as far as was claimed”. “There was contact [from Marseille] last year, but nothing really concrete this summer. “I had just arrived at Chelsea, it was not the time to pack my bags again three months later”. “For me, Chelsea is the top club in England, the one that has won the most titles over the last 10 years”. “I am where I wanted to be. So why leave?”

Giroud is yet to score a goal in the current season for Chelsea. The Frenchman has scored five times and has assisted eight times in twenty-six Chelsea appearance. Giroud will be hoping to score in the coming weekend when Chelsea host Manchester United at the Bridge.
