Anthony Martial was speculated to be on a move away from Old Trafford, with both his on and off the pitch actions stating otherwise. The Frenchman who was rumored to have rift with United boss Jose Mourinho, after leaving the pre-season unofficially to attend to the birth of his son. He was however fined £180,000 for his actions.

Chelsea and Tottenham monitored his situation locally while Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and Sevilla all showed interest, but club Vice-President Ed Woodward vetoed all moves to sign him and instead handed him a contract extension.

However, Sam Allardyce believes that the Manchester have made a monumental mistake in extending the Frenchman’s days. “I’m very surprised if they have offered him a five-year contract in all honesty,” Allardyce said. “The lad is in his fourth season at Manchester United and I don’t think anybody would actually say he has delivered consistently. “We’ve seen the odd flash of his brilliance, but by now he should be showing that brilliance on a more regular basis. “He should be hitting top form more often than not. “He’s had two managers now and both managers have found it difficult to find him a regular place in the Man United side.”

Anthony Martial have made just one start for the Manchester club in their 3-2 defeat on the road against Brighton. He did not feature in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

He was left out of the Didier Deschamps’s Les Bleus team that lifted the World cup and also left out of the team that are currently on international break.
