Manchester City and Chelsea will lurk horns on Sunday, at the Wembley stadium for the FA charity shield. The Traditional community shield game of the 2018 year, is likely to be the last game for both managers before the current transfer window expires.
While Guardiola’s team looks almost complete with little involvement in the market, Sarri’s Chelsea looks deficient in goal scoring department as Morata has failed to leave up to expectation.
Alvaro Morata is yet to score in his last three pre-season outing and this is alarming. The Spanish center forward have scored twice since the start of 2018 year, as he has been wasteful in front of goal. The Spaniard in his most recent outing against local rivals Arsenal failed to beat Petr Cech from the spot.
Sarri in his match selections and post-match press statements have continued to back Morata, with the hope that the Spaniard rediscovers his form before the season kicks off. While the Italian continues to field the Spaniard on the pitch, off the pitch the club continues to search for a center forward with Bayern’s Lewandowski the latest player to be linked to the bridge.
Morata despite undergoing a goal scoring drought, have one more chance to prove himself before the Chelsea boss whose patience is certainly running out. The traditional community shield presents the Spaniard the opportunity to cement his spot ahead of Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi or any incoming center forward.
Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi did not participate in the pre-season games, means that Sarri will opt between Morata and Tammy Abraham and the Spaniard is surely going to get the starting berth on Sunday. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois are both ruled out for the game.
