Jose Mourinho will meet the club’s Vice-Chairman this week as he seeks both clarity about his managerial position at the Old Trafford, as well as the Red Devils transfer plans for January. The pair were supposed to meet last week, but Woodward made an eleventh hour postponement of the date much to the annoyance of Jose Mourinho. Reports had it that it was due to the rift between the duos. However, the media were meant to understand that it was because of a sudden engagement.
Mourinho was believed to be furious after reports emerged that the club vetoed moves for Toby Alderweired and Jerome Boateng last summer. Mourinho who has been linked heavily with a departure from the Old Trafford, has been worried that the Manchester club might avail him a small amount of money for the January transfer window, but Woodward confirmed that £75 million will be made available for him. Mourinho’s main concern has been his defense as the club has allowed 17th goals in their opening 10 league games.
Another reason cited out in his meeting with Woodward is to air his own recommendation to Woodward as the Portuguese seems to lack faith in his scouting team. Mourinho was previously spotted scouting Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic in Serbia’s friendly game against Montenegro during the international break. Mourinho has repeatedly lashed at his back four and even highlighted after the 2-1 victory over Everton that it is impossible for them to keep a clean sheet. United are exploring the possibility of hiring a Director of Football and Mourinho has accepted that his targets must be ‘signed off’ until one is appointed.
