The days of coaches collecting bribes to favor footballer seems to be coming to an end, as assistant coach Yusuf Salisu gets caught up in a scandal. Videos of the assistant coach collecting money perceived to be bribe surfaced online yesterday, much to the surprise of the media. This is coming barely 1 month after the nation featured in the Russia 2018 world cup.

The footage captured by the controversial football journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in September 2017, few months to the African Nations Championship in Morocco where Nigeria came second behind the hosts.

In the video, the assistant coach was captured collecting $1000, (N360000), a suppose bait for him to pick two players for the 2018 CHAN tournament.

Victor Ikpeba in reaction to the news, expressed shock over the incident. “I’m shocked at what happened to Salisu Yusuf. This should be a lesson to all our indigenous coaches” The former Super eagle’s footballer wrote on his Twitter handle.

The Nigeria football coaches association seem to have pledged their support for the Super eagle’s assistant coach, as they believe he is innocent of bribery allegations. The group in a communique signed by its chairman Ladan Bosso who is the head coach of Nigerian professional football club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah the group reaffirmed their trust in him stating that he is guilty of the accusations laid on him
