Ogenyi Onazi on Friday was confirmed to miss the African Cup qualifying round of game against Libya after the player suffered an Achilles injury.

The Trabzonspor midfield enforcer was absent from the last training on Friday and the Super Eagles tactician has given reasons for his absence. Onazi have been confirmed not to take part in the Super Eagles activity at Godswill Akpabio stadium on Saturday.

The midfielder was keen to contribute his quota when Nigeria faced the Mediterranean knights for the 2019 African Cup of Nation spot but the former Lazio footballer will have to watch the game from the stands or television.

Super Eagles trainer Genort Rohr has also revealed that the player suffered Achilles injury from the training on Thursday, and that was the reason why he was absent on Friday.

In an interview with the media reporters on Friday, Rohr said: “It is sad we didn’t have him to train with us this (Friday) evening”. “He is injured. He had an Achilles injury in training on Thursday and, so he couldn’t be part of the training”. “The team doctors are treating him as we wish he recovers quickly but as it stands, he is not likely to play Saturday’s match against Libya.”

Meanwhile, in the absence of the midfield enforcer, Rohr will have to make a choice between Oghenekaro Etebo and John Ogu when Nigeria faces Libya.
