Red Devil’s boss Jose Mourinho had every reason to be happy at the end of 90 minutes in the league game against Newcastle as Manchester United came from a two goals deficit to triumph 3-2. Pogba, Sanchez and Mata despite perceived to be in Jose Mourinho bad book displayed their quality to ensure that Portuguese tactician retains his job at theatre of dreams. The duo contributed immense in a crucial manner, when it seemed like Mourinho had lost his job. This was the first victory for the Manchester club after a winless streak which stretched to four consecutive games in all competition.
The Manchester club fell two goal down within the first ten minutes after a shambolic defending from Eric Bailey. Bailey was caught out of in possession when a through ball was released to Kennedy. The on loan Chelsea attacker was able to cut the ball to his left before placing the ball into the back of the net. Bailey again failed to clear the ball from a cross from the right flank, and the ball fell to Yedlin. The attacker pushed the ball to his right before a releasing a shot that beat De Gea inside the box. Mourinho observing the defensive frailties of the player replaced him with Juan Mata after 9 minutes. Despite the poor performance of the team, Pogba continued to show his quality for the Manchester club. Second interval introduction of Fellaini and Sanchez paid off as Manchester United turned on an attacking style. Jose Mourinho’s introduction of Juan Mata finally paid off as the Spanish international brought a glimmer of hope in the 70 minutes. Anthony Martial who had a difficult time in the first interval was a beneficiary of Pogba brilliant layoff inside the box in the second interval. Martial was able to level for the host 6 minutes later. Sanchez finally ended his goal drought with an important goal that proved to be Mourinho’s saving grace.
Jose Mourinho has never given the players a nod in the current season. The Portuguese tactician had been in a rift with Pogba over his performance since the beginning of the league season. Pogba was recently stripped off his Vice-captain role after what was a perceived to be a heated argument with the Portuguese tactician weeks back, but the Frenchman despite being banned from commenting about his condition at the theatre of dreams on social media put up a dominant performance which ensured that Manchester United relegated Newcastle to their own half. The former Juventus midfielder also justified his inclusion in the squad by providing an assist for Anthony Martial for the leveler. The Portuguese has never consider Juan Mata as an alternative for his starting lineup, but the introduction of the former Valencia attacker in the first interval was the right dose for the Red Devils who looked short of ideas after conceding the second goal. The Spainard initiated attacks with Pogba and able net his free-kick which set the prelude for a comeback. Alexis Sanchez is yet to impress since his arrival at the theatre of dreams but his introduction paid off as the Chilean attacker was at the right place and time to meet up with Ashley Young’s cross to ensure the Manchester United collected their first three points in 3 league games. Mourinho however will not admit it publicly but the fact remains that trio through their performance ensured that Jose Mourinho lived to fight for another day for his job.
