Alexis Sanchez arrived at the Old Trafford earlier in the year but has struggled to replicate his Arsenal form at Manchester United, with the Chilean attacker netting four goals in 28 appearance for the club. The Chilean has netted only once in the current league season with the winner in the 3-2 comeback against Newcastle.
Now the former Arsenal and Barcelona player was seen with clutches after he was substituted at Turin and could miss the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Reports have emerged that the player was never Jose Mourinho’s first choice transfer. According to the Times, Jose Mourinho revealed that he would have preferred the club acquired Ivan Perisic in the summer of 2017.
The Portuguese tactician believes the wide player has more crossing ability than Sanchez and will provide quality service for Lukaku. Times also believes that the Chilean attacker is on his way to PSG.
However former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that there was a positive in the arrival of Sanchez.
“It is the question that he has raised with his performances,” Wenger said on BeIN Sport.
“I believe he has lost confidence.
“The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take initiative, to dribble, to take people on.
“These kind of players are most vulnerable when they have no confidence anymore because their game is based on confidence and feeling free to take initiative.
“He has lost that slowly, even with the interruption of the season, since the start of the season he looks like he had a high level of energy that he has lost as well.
“Certainly, he is refreshed now because Mourinho left him out for a while and he has a good opportunity to get back to where he belongs, as a top player.”
