In the spirit of Sportsmanship, South African football association President Danny Jordan congratulated Nigeria and her female football team for their successful performance which saw them retain the continental trophy after defeating Banyana Banyana team in the finals on Saturday.
In a letter received by the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Football Federation Dr Mohammed Sanusi, The SAFA boss through the acting Chief Executive Officer Russel Paul said: “On behalf of the SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, the SAFA National Executive Committee and the entire SAFA Membership, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your team on your success at CAF Women’s AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS, GHANA 2018.
You gave us a real fight for the crown and came out victorious, and we salute you. Congratulations too for your qualification for the World Cup in France 2019, and we look forward to joining you in carrying the torch for AFRICA!”
South Africa also joined Nigeria in the FIFA female World cup tournament coming up in France, after grabbing an automatic qualification by reaching the finals of the continental showpiece. This will be the first appearance of the Banyana Bayana team in the World Cup.
Nigeria ‘s Super Falcons beat South Africa 4 -3 on penalties after the game ended goalless after normal regulation time and extra 30 minute.
