Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier league with a 3-0 victory over Southampton at Saint Mary’s stadium. The 3-0 was complimented with 31 pass move, the most for any Premier league goal, and this caught the eyes of Sarri.
“Sure, it was the goal I liked the most, because I can see my way of football,” said Sarri. “We move the ball very quickly. One touch, then we are arrive at the goal so easily.”
While Eden Hazard seems to be the rock on which the philosophy is built on, Ross Barkley’s performance showed how he is has been benefiting from the Sarriball style of football.
After getting his first recall to national team since 2016, Barkley capped a perfect week with a goal and an assist. This was barely days after he was likened to former blues legends Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard.
Sarri recognized the player’s contribution but quoted that there is more to come.
“He had a very serious injury; he is improving day by day and I think the best will follow,” said Sarri. “Potentially, he is a great player. He will become a very important player, and for the England national team.”
The 24yr old can realistically expect an oppurtuinity from Garry Southgate when the international break begins from Tuesday. After undergoing surgery in 2017, Barkley seemed far from featuring for the three lions but his recent performance have put him back in line. The player despite his recent impressive performance is not getting carried away. “I’ve just got to back myself when I’m on that pitch,” said Barkley. “I’ve got to have the confidence in my own ability.”
