Chelsea’s unbeaten run in all competition came to an end on Saturday evening as the London club was humbled 3-1 by fellow London side Tottenham hotpur at Wembley. Tottenham were bright throughout the encounter will Chelsea were not on their best on the night.
Sarri observing the game revealed in his post-match press conference that he has always warned his players about their approach towards games.
“It’s clear. I knew very well that we had a lot of problems to solve and I think that today it was clear for everybody,” he told BT. “I hope first of all for the players, because I told them in the last few weeks that we had a problem in the approach to the match, and today it was the same approach”. “But today the level of the opponent was different and in 15 minutes we lost 2-0”. “This was the first problem, but today I saw a lot of problems because we played very badly from a physical point of view, mentally and technically, especially in the first 20-25 minutes”. “Tactically we have a lot of work, a lot of problems to solve”. “I knew it very well before this match and I think it is clear for everybody and I hope for the players.”
David Luiz looked to be the culprit in Harry Kane’s goal as his inability to commit himself lead to the master-stroke but Sarri has refused to heap blame on the player.
“I don’t know,” he said when asked whether Luiz was to blame. “Maybe the goalkeeper didn’t see the ball”. “I think that David was afraid to touch the ball and to change the direction of the ball”. “But we were passive in the match, so it was only a question of a minute.”
