Super eagles boss Gernot Rohr has expressed optimism that the Nigeria team will be dauntless at the biggest stages despite their early exit from the 2018 FIFA World cup in Russia. The German who pen-down a two-year contract extension last year was quick to commend his player on their mood while in camp.
“I think the future is for Nigeria because the spirit is wonderful, big solidarity and you see in these difficult moments how great the spirit in the team is” Rohr told popular media outfit BBC Sport. “What they have learned is to be better in the beginning of the match”. “We reacted well in all three matches in the second half, so our start must be better”. “Also we should have no complex now. We have seen that we can win against good team like Iceland. We had some mistakes of youthfulness, like conceding penalties, but all the time the team is in this collective spirit and I like it”.
Gernot Rohr with his Nigeria team will be shifting attention to the African continental showpiece coming up in 2019 with qualifying games beginning in September against Seychelles. Rohr will be hoping that his squad apply the experience gained from the World football tournament against the African team as he begins his preparation for the 2022 showpiece in Qatar.
