Manchester United interest in landing a quality central defender has no bounds. The Manchester club last summer were linked several defenders with Yerry Mina, Diego Godin, Kevin Boateng, Alderweired, Garry Gahill, Kourt Zouma and Harry Maguire all making the headlines with the Manchester club, but Club Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward vetoed all deals, owing to the fact that the club had already made such transfer in two consecutive summer which saw Eric Bailey and Lindelof arrive to the club.

However the club has paid the prize for missing on acquiring a good defender in the summer as they have conceded 21 goals in the current football season already.

The Red Devils management recent came to terms with the urgent need of investing on a defender by the winter window, with the club promising to back Jose Mourinho in the January transfer window.

According to Daily Record, Manchester United have made Napoli’s central defender Koulibaly as their number one target. Koulibaly has been on the radar of a host of European clubs but the player transfer fee coupled with the shrewd approach of doing business from the Napoli President De Laurentis have limited clubs.

The 27yr old extended his contract with the Italian club back in September, with the new deal lasting till 2023.

Recent report from October had it that Barcelona were willing to pay a staggering £88 million for his signature.
