Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho kept a clean sheet on Sunday as club side Elche defeated visiting team Real Zaragoza in the Spain’s Segunda division.
The clean sheet which came at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero was the second consecutive one kept by the Super Eagles shot-stopper since his arrival on-loan from Deportivo La Coruna. The Nigerian goalkeeper has previously kept a clean sheet in Elche’s 2-0 victory over Malaga on his league debut on October 19.
Goals from Gonzalo Verdu and Nino proved to be crucial in the encounter for Elche to ensure they had their third victory of the new league season. The visitors had a chance three minutes from time to pull one back but the Nigerian goalie had to make a goal line save to ensure he had a clean sheet to his name.
It was the first time this season that Elche have not conceded in two successive games thanks to their impressive Nigerian goalkeeper who celebrated his 20th birthday on Sunday, October 28.
Uzoho has continued to establish himself in the Nigerian national team. The shot-stopper was able to keep a clean sheet when Nigeria played Seychelles and Libya in Uyo. Though he was eventually beaten twice in Tunisia, Uzoho continues to show improvement.
Elche believing in his improvement, has favored the Nigerian over veteran goalkeeper Jose Juan since he returned from international assignment.
