Antonio Conte will be hoping for a turn-around in performance of his wide-men (Victor Moses) to save Chelsea’s season after the recent run of form that have seen the London side slip to 4th position and in danger of falling out of the Champions league position with Arsenal and Tottenham charging. Chelsea have won twice in 11 games in all competition with the addition of the FA Cup third round replay victory over Norwich.
This have been due to the inability of Antonio Conte to switch tactics as the Italian sticking to his preferred 3 at the back. The defeat to Watford showed how fast English teams have adapted to his style of football with the Italian lucky to keep his job at the bridge. It’s believed that the departure from a back three formation could hold the key in turning the fortunes of the London outfit. To this end, Victor Moses could be vital to the Italian if he wants to save his job. Chelsea began the 2016/2017 season in a shaky manner which lead to the introduction of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso as his primary wing-back after back to back defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal.
The switch saw the blues win a mouthwatering 27 games from possible 32 to lift the league after winning just three from six. Moses reinvented himself as a wing back with significant improvement. This season have seen his performance drop which have also affected the London club. The three-man defence requires the wingbacks to maintain the side’s width while influencing games at the game at both attacking and defending. Moses and Alonso have struggled to keep up with their earlier tempo of last season and it’s weakened the effectiveness of the team.
Victor Moses stats have dropped with his inability to beat markers with consistency and create scoring chances for teammates at the final third, probably the Nigerian is feeling the heat of playing in one of the demanding positions of modern football. The extra games have not done him any good as moment of fatigues have been seen. Conte have not helped matters too with the Italian flirtation with 3-5-2 which gives the wide-men more work of attacking and defender with the addition of a man in the mid-field.
With the departure of both Abdul Baba Rahman and Kenedy on loan to Schalke 04 and Newcastle and the arrival of Emerson Palmieri from Roma Conte will have to rotate the players among the position to get the best out of them as the hold vital role to his stay at in London.
